“...... What she fears is that she is alienated and lost in the future. The transformation of the caterpillar into a chrysalis and then into a butterfly creates uneasiness in the heart of the child: is it still the same caterpillar after a long sleep? Would she recognize herself under the glittering wings?” (Simone de Beauvior)
The story explores the changes experienced and perceived by a teenage girl during her physical and emotional development. As she transitions from child to woman, the gaze directed at her shifts. She begins to question and feel uncertain about her own body and identity.
