BA Thesis Film, 2023,oil pastel animation, 4'10'

This clumsy hand-drawn animation primarily uses celluloid sheets and oil pastels as materials. The story revolves around a heavy snowfall on the first day of the Lunar New Year in Shanghai when I was eight years old, and the fireworks debris that fell onto my head that night. The work documents the distinctive customs and culinary traditions of celebrating Chinese New Year in Shanghai, preserving the author's cherished memories of family and regional folklore. Through this documentary approach, it weaves a coherent emotional thread from fragmented, everyday narratives. Enhanced by metaphorical and lyrical animated visual poetry, it expands upon themes of familial bonds and cultural heritage, expressing nuanced emotions and dialectical reflections on the relationship between home and the wanderer.
